4th Thematic Programme: The Countries of the Union

The content of the thematic programme “The Countries of the Union” includes the EU 25 member states, that is to say: Italy, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, France, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland, Denmark, Greece, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Swede, Finland, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Esthonian, Latvia, Malta and Cyprus, presented by Professor Beniamino Caravita, full professor of Public Law. To each country it was devoted a programme: at the beginning it is proposed an information graphical sheet including general data, with a short geographical, demographic and economic profile. Then it follows a detailed description of the Country’s political, social and institutional characteristics, paying a particular attention to the general political framework as it appeared from the last European elections for the European Parliament in June 2004, to its participation in the EU, to it representation within the institutions, to the European Commissioner and the relative portfolio his competent for. Of particular interest in this programme are the detailed profiles offered for the 10 countries that have recently joined the Union, belonging to the European Central-Eastern Area, still very little know in the European public opinion.
