Let’s try to talk now about the future of Europe. In five years we made: Euro, the enlargement, the Consttution, even if it was rejected by the referendum and this provoked a stop, contraddictions and we dindn’t know what to do anymore. My ideas about this are quite clear. The process towards Constitution has stopped and we cannot pretend people didn’t speak. When there are referenda we must take them into account, so we’ll let the dust deposit, let’s talk about constitution, but we can take no decisions in the immediate future, i.e. at least until the Spring 2007, after the elections for the President of France. But in the meanwhile Europe must go on, there’s a will of Europe, people ask us to help them to solve their daily problems, that cannot be solved on the national field. Think about the energy problem. Everybody preferred a national energetic policy when I proposed an agreement with Russia, European countries wanted to walk alone, evetyone wanted to get an advantage for itself, Germany on one hand, Italy on the other one and now they ask Europe to provide and in so many fields. So I think now, leaving the Constitution behind, we should start doing things together again. In the last European summit, German position gave me a hope for a renewal of European impulse. I think we have to build a group of countries, and I really hope Italy will be among these countries, restarting the way of Europe from some concrete points. Economic policy and social policy are two fundamental chapters, of course. Economic policy for we have the Euro as a concrete reality, well working, became the landmark for the world economy, it’s entering China, India and other countries reserves because it provides the world with safety, with balance. Someone said, I dare to say, Europe with Euro will be the Europe of bankers. They don’t realize the choice of the same money it’s a political choice with an extraordinary importance. Chinese people say they want Euro in order to live in a pluralistic world. And if Europe speaks, China can speak too. You’ll see this mean not only an economic decision, but a political one as well. We wanted to give time to European citizens in order to calm their fears, because maybe this process as been very quick for their souls. We have to show them we are able to solve the problems the have to face every day. For this reason some European countries should work together in some concrete fields: the infrastructures, going on with the project “muscles of Europe”, shared research, co.operation in economic policy in order to support the monetary policy, policies of social protection. On these fields the countries with the sense of history, willing to lead EU, must start working together, being an exemple of co-operation. I think this is the way we have to walk in the future, a very fruitful way, because nowadays the single nations, the countries on thei own have no hope to exist. There cannot be a separated Germany, a separated Italy, a separated France anymore, just Europe, as a new fatherland can exist.
